On Thursday evening, 07 May, three U.S. Navy destroyers came under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the American destroyers USS Truxton, USS Mason, and USS Rafael Peralta were attacked by Iranian missiles, drones, and small boats. In response, CENTCOM eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking U.S. forces, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control locations, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes. Following the engagement, the three destroyers exited the Persian Gulf and returned to enforcing the naval blockade.
