Description
A tanker was struck by a cruise missile on the port side while transiting 17NM north of Doha, Qatar. The projectile caused damage to the hull above the waterline. All crew members aboard are reported safe, and there is no environmental impact from the incident. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the attack.
Key Findings
The lack of casualties and environmental damage could suggest this was a warning attack. The incident comes a day after Iran attacked a fully loaded crude oil tanker at Dubai port’s anchorage.
Recommendations
The Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz are considered critical risk.
Mariners should continue to exercise extreme caution when operating in these areas. The risk of adversary attacks against commercial shipping remains elevated amid the ongoing conflict.
